Gai Waterhouse believes that Saturday’s Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick figures as the ideal first point of call for talented filly Thyme For Roses ahead of a busy Spring Carnival preparation.
Thyme For Roses has not been seen at the races since fading in the late stages of the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) to finish fifth on Day 2 of The Championships, but the three-year-old has produced a number of particularly smart trials in the lead-up to her competitive return.
Waterhouse is thrilled with the daughter of Redoute’s Choice ahead of the 2016 Silver Shadow Stakes and told Racing Ahead she should prove hard to beat in the fillies’ feature first-up.
“She’s come back very well,” Waterhouse said.
“She’s a very immediate filly, she rolls up the sleeves, gets on with the job and no mucking about. There won’t be any mucking about with her tomorrow.
“In her trial she led all the way and was attacked in the last 200m quite ferociously by the horse that ran second, and the horse that ran second couldn’t get past her.
“I’ve got a lot of time for this filly, she’s lovely.”
Thyme For Roses has always displayed plenty in her trials, and the filly immediately stamped herself as one to watch when beating a smart field to the line comfortably in a Randwick hit-out of 737m prior to her competitive debut.
Translating that form into competition when she won the More Than Just Winning Maiden (1000m) on debut in October last year, the filly out of Augusta Proud clearly required a run when resuming this year for twelfth in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude F (1100m).
Responding well for fifth in the Listed Festival Of Racing 1000 (1000m), Thyme For Roses broke through for a maiden black type win in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) on March 12th, in what was her only other start prior to the Percy Sykes Stakes.
Thyme For Roses will leave from barrier 8 in the Silver Shadow Stakes, and has been confirmed to be partnered by Adam Hyeronimus.
Ladbrokes Australia is currently offering Thyme For Roses at 2016 Silver Shadow Stakes odds of $12.
