Silent Whisper A Winning Chance In 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell believes that Silent Whisper is capable of producing an upset win when he takes on a strong field in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Silent Whisper is yet to record a win in three race starts, finishing third in both the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) and the Meetings & Events Australia Plate (1000m), but according to Kennewell has always shown a great deal of talent.

The son of I Am Invincible has done plenty wrong in each of his three starts, but Kennewell told Racing Ahead that he is confident that the talented juvenile can produce an improve effort with blinkers on in the Blue Diamond Prelude this weekend.

“He has been a little bit unlucky in a few runs and he has got himself beat a bit,” Kennewell said.

“He has always shown us a fair bit, he probably should have won at Moonee Valley on debut, and each start he has been slow out of the barriers.

“That has probably been his biggest problem and he hasn’t done that in any of his jump outs he has ever had; he always jumped on the speed and won easily.

“I am very keen to get him to jump cleanly on Saturday, hence the reason the blinkers are going on for the first time.”

The 2014 Blue Diamond Prelude has drawn a very strong set of nominations; with the exciting Rubick, Maribyrnong Plate winner Boomwaa, Team Hawkes-trained Nostradamus and the talented Chivalry all set to contest the race.

Kennewell admits that Silent Whisper will be need to be at his very best to be competitive against the strong field, but is confident that his star juvenile is capable of causing an upset if he gets a good run into the race.

“He is going to need to be on the top of his game on Saturday, it is probably the best Blue Diamond Prelude field in the last twenty years, and if we can finish strongly in that you would expect we can finish strongly in the Blue Diamond,” Kennewell said.

“He is the sort of horse that if he can stalk the leaders and get a good run on the back of the speed at Caulfield, if there is any chink in the armor of the favourites he should be the one finishing off over the top of them.”

Silent Whisper is currently rated an outsider in 2014 Blue Diamond Stakes betting markets and is available at odds of $61.
