Cluster joined the Team Snowden stable ahead of his spring preparation, after previously being prepared by Anthony Cummings, and he made his racing debut for his new stable with a dominant nine and a half lengths win in a maiden at Kembla Grange on June 28 before recording his maiden metropolitan race win in the Forum Group Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on July 19.
Snowden told Racing Ahead this morning that they are throwing Cluster in at the deep end in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m), but he believes that the $125,000 event is a nice race for the Fastnet Rock entire.
“He is not one to go in the deep end early on and it is a quiet solid race on paper, but it is a winnable race for the horse,” Snowden said.
“I think that he is going terrific, he is a very fit horse at the moment and the track we are going to meet on Saturday, even though he has never been on a heavy track, you are going to have to be fairly forward and that he is.
“He is a very gross colt and we trialed him last Friday just to give him a little bit of a blow out because you need to keep the work up to him.
“His first two wins were a month apart and all being well hopefully we can keep that winning streak continuing.”
Team Snowden are yet to decide on the major 2014 Spring Racing Carnival target for Cluster and Paul Snowden said that they will wait until after the Show County Quality before they make any future plans for the four-year-old, but he confirmed that there were a number of possible options for the talented galloper in both Sydney and Melbourne.
“He has a fair few options,” Snowden said.
“He can stay at handicap level or he can go to weight-for-age.
“We will just play it by ear and just get Saturday out of the way first.
“There are an enormous amount of options for the horse right up to a mile nearly every week up here and leading into the Melbourne Carnival.”
The 2014 Show County Quality has drawn 11 talented runners and Cluster is one of only two runners, along with Oakfield Commands, that will not be going into the race first-up.
