Shooting To Win narrow favourite in Randwick Guineas

Early morning support has seen Shooting To Win gain a narrow advantage over Hallowed Crown for favouritism for the Group 1 $600,000 Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick today.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Shooting To Win is now the $2.70 favourite after starting the day at $2.80 while Hallowed Crown from the stables of Bart and James Cummings is currently marked at $2.80.

And in the small field of six three year olds, Sweynesse is also in close contention at $3.30 with the older three runners at log odds – Sworn To Silence at $14, Preferment at $51 and Rhodin Drive at $81.

As the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au indicates, there is very little between the top three in the market order, just as there was very little between them when they filled three of the first four placings in the Group 2 $200,000 Blackwoods CRC Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on February 21.

Hallowed Crown proved too strong on that occasion beating Sweynesse by a head with Shooting To Win less than half a lengths from the winner in fourth spot.

Leading form analyst Adam Blencowe is leaning towards Shooting To Win but also says there is not much between the three year olds.

“They are very smart colts,” Blencowe said.

“From a betting perspective there is not much between them and it is pretty clear that the Hobartville is the race.

“I think that Shooting To Win is the one that is open to big improvement from that first-up run.”
