Sheraco Stakes to Figure for Sold For Song

Toowoomba-based trainer Kevin Kemp has revealed a bold plan to saddle talented mare Sold For Song in a number of black type feature races through the forthcoming Spring Carnival; beginning with the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 10th.

Sold For Song was a standout performer for the local contingent through the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival in finishing outside the first three only once in six starts at black type level; peaking with a strong win in the Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes (1400m) on June 25th.

Kemp has been thrilled with the class and results posted by the Collate mare through her racing career so far, and is excited to saddle a horse in interstate black type races through the 2016 Spring Carnival.

“At this stage she will head to Sydney on September 10 for a fillies and mares race and then she will have another fillies and mares race start in Sydney a fortnight later (Group 2 Golden Pendent, 1400m),” Kemp told AAP.

“If she races well we will head to Melbourne where she will have two more starts in fillies and mares races.

“One of the races we have chosen for her is on Caulfield Cup day (Group 2 Tristarc Stakes, 1400m). It will be a great thrill for a bloke like me just to have a runner on the day. She should have enough prize money to get into the fields we have targeted.

“I think on her ability she can be very competitive in both states.”

Purchased for only $2500, Sold For Song immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow upon debuting to racing in November for success in the Caboolture Sports Club Maiden (1000m), and continued to impress in running second in the Mittys Handicap (1110m) and winning the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m).

Resuming this year for second in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate (1000m) on April 23rd, Sold For Song charged home late for second in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m), but failed to make anything of an impact when 12th in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1350m).

Responding well with a tough performance for third in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) in her only other start prior to the Daybreak Lover Stakes, the filly out of Buena Chava has not been seen at the races since placing third in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on July 2nd.
