Sheidel looking for better luck in Bel Esprit Stakes

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig is hoping for a change of luck for Sheidel when she lines up in the Listed $120,000 Sheen Group Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Sheidel has figured in the Stewards’ report at her both her runs for the Lindsay Park Team of Dabernig and David Hayes since arriving from Western Australian where she was a winner of eleven races.

At her first start in Melbourne Sheidel was caught wide without cover when one and a quarter lengths third to Beau Rada in a 955m Moonee Valley Handicap on March 24 and then she bungled the start when fourth to Bullpit in a 1000m Sandown Handicap on April 9.

“She has had no luck at her two starts for us. Has been racing really well,” Dabernig said.

“Last start she knuckled coming out of the gates.”

“Good class sprint but she is a really good mare and I think now that she has had the benefit of those couple of runs, I really like her chances.”

“She has got Damian Oliver aboard.”

Damien Oliver has been given the job this week of seeing that Sheidel gets every possible winning chance from barrier eight in a capacity fourteen horse field.

Sheidel has been installed the early favourite for the Bel Esprit Stakes at $4.60 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of the topweight Under The Louvre at $5.50 and Pittsburgh Flyer at $6.50.
