Sheer Style was able to out slog Geromayo on a rain soaked Ballarat track to win the only race run in the clockwise direction in Victoria, an innovation the Ballarat Turf Club has instigated to give local youngsters the experience if they qualify to run in the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January.

The Snitzel filly was sent out the $1.85 favourite after finishing second twice at her only two race starts and even though she didn’t handle the boggy conditions that good, she was still too classy for the rest of the field.

“She didn’t look that comfortable, she wandered around,” Frazer told TVN.
“Normally, she’s a beautifully actioned filly, but her class got her there.”

“I’d say she wasn’t really that comfortable on the heavy track.”

“She’s probably better on top of the ground. She can have a break now and we’ll see where we end up.”

Sheer Style gave connections a minor scare when she veered out badly at the top of the straight, but Jason Collett was able to balanced her up again to score a comfortable win in the end.

“She more or less shied at the wining post. That’s her type of temperament,” Collett said.

“She looks around a lot and in time might be a horse that appreciates the addition of blinkers.

“I said to Garry from day one she’s natural early running type.

“She can be a bit nervy but today she was lovely and relaxed and took it all in.”

Frazer paid $255,000 for the Snitzel filly the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sales in January and admits that he paid $100,000 more than he intended, but he was very taken by her appearance.

“She was very athletic filly and I wanted to buy a two-year-old and she looked a two-year-old,” Frazer said.

Sheer Style took her earnings to $153,00 after picking up yesterday’s winning cheque of $120,000, guaranteeing her a spot in the Magic Millions Classic field at the Gold Coast.

The win on Sheer Style at Ballarat capped off a good weekend for Collett who scored a winning double for trainer Peter Snowden on the Kensington track at Randwick on Saturday.
