She Will Reign favourite for Silver Slipper Stakes

Speedy filly She Will Reign can cement her spot at the top of the betting for the Golden Slipper if she can keep her winning record intact in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

She Will Reign currently sits at the top of the market order at $5.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18 and is also the short priced favourite for the Silver Slipper Stakes at $1.75.

As well winning her Maiden at Kembla Grange and the $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 17 by a combined margin of twelve and a quarter lengths, the Gary Portelli trained filly also recorded a nine lengths win in an 808m barrier trial at Warwick Farm on February 6.

She Will Reign kept Portelli glowing following her work at Warwick Farm this morning and the Group 1 winning trainer classified her gallop as fantastic.

“Her work was fantastic this morning,” Portelli told racing.com.

“It was unbelievable work to watch. She’s the real deal.

“It was just nice controlled work over 1000 metres with Straturbo and it was just really good work.

“It was building work from the 1000 and she kept getting stronger and through the line she was doing her best work so it was perfect work.”

Portelli has also nominated Single Bullet for the Silver Slipper Stakes and thinks the Not A Single Doubt colt will peak later in the Autumn Carnival over the longer distances.

“I think he’s more of a Sires’ (Produce) or a Champagne sort of horse,” Portelli said.

“He’s a pretty good colt. He’s got plenty up his sleeve.”

The Sliver Slipper Stakes is shaping up as a high class contest and Portelli will get a good idea where She Will Reign is rated for the Golden Slipper coming up against John O’Shea’s undefeated colt Veranillo and the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Khan.

Khan looked impressive in winning the Listed $150,000 Newgate Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 1 at his only race start while Veranillo made it two from two with his win in the Listed $125,000 Hinchinbrook Plate (1100m) at Randwick on February 4.

Early market order for the Silver Slipper Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $1.75 She Will Reign, $5.50 Khan, $8 Veranillo, $15 Invincible Star, $17 Lucky Louie, $18 Malahat, $21 Single Bullet, $26 Showtime, $31 Mystic Empire, $41 Paradis Imperial, $61 Lightz, $71 Cuba.
