Seville Joins Spring Casualty List

Less than a week after rocketing into Caulfield and Melbourne Cup contention with a runner-up finish in the Turnbull Stakes, Lloyd Williams-owned import Seville has been ruled out of the spring.

Williams’ son Nick confirmed on twitter the four-year-old has contracted a virus and will be spelled until the autumn.

“Seville has a virus and will not take any part in the spring. Spelling until the autumn,” Williams tweeted.

The son of Galileo had three spring starts but showed real signs he could be a major player with his Turnbull Stakes performance where he flew home to finish within half a length of stablemate Green Moon.

Seville’s withdrawal from the remainder of the spring carnival has resulted in a Caulfield Cup market reshuffle, with Glencadam Gold shortening further to $3.80 ahead of December Draw ($6.50) and Dundaden ($11.00).
