Although he hasn’t received the publicity of more fancied stablemates Green Moon and Sea Moon, co-owner Nick Williams believes that Seville could be the stables star performer during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

The European import was purchased by Macedon Lodge at the end of 2011 and, after taking some time to acclimatize, stamped himself as a 2012 Spring Carnival contender with an impressive second place finish behind Green Moon in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m).

Seville received plenty of support in the lead-up to the 2012 Caulfield Cup (2400m) but was ruled out of the remainder of the carnival after contracting a virus.

Despite also missing the 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival, Williams said the Galileo five-year-old has recovered well and is primed to be a major player in the upcoming season.

“He is really thriving, he has had that extra time here now and his time to perform is now,” Williams said on Racing HQ.

“If you did a blind survey of all our staff at the farm and said name one horse for the spring, he would be the one that ninety percent of the people would pick.

“We will see where he gets two in the spring but we are really excited about him.”

With Green Moon and Sea Moon being set for Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), Seville looks like being the leading cups hope for Macedon Lodge and Williams is very confident about the rising six-year-olds chances in both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup (3200m).

“I would assume he will get 53.5kg and that puts him right on target for those races and if we keep him on his feet there is absolutely no reason he can’t be a contender,” Williams said.

“He is as exciting a horse as we have.”
