Set Square was sent to the spelling paddock after she produced the poorest performance of her racing career to date in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 28, but she has now completed a month of pre-training and is ready to start full-time work ahead of her 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.

Maher believes that the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17 is an ideal race for Set Square and he told Racing Ahead that he is hopeful the Reset filly is in for a big preparation.

“She has done her pre-training and she has done about a bit over four weeks down at Warrnambool on the beach and she comes back to Melbourne this week,” Maher said.

“She is going to be on a Caulfield Cup campaign and she will probably have three runs into that, so it is her fourth run.

“That will be a target for her and beyond that we will just see how we go.

“She has developed a bit from her three-year-old year and she is a real natural stayer.

“She is qualified for all those races and I am really looking forward to getting her back in the stable.”

Set Square made her racing debut with a third place finish at Donald on September 15 last year and she claimed her maiden race win at Ballarat on October 8 before she earnt a place in the Crown Oaks field with a most impressive win in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 18.

There was plenty of money for Set Square in the lead-up to the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) and she produced an impressive staying effort to win the $1 million race in just her fourth race start.

Set Square started her 2015 Melbourne Festival Of Racing campaign with a fast-finishing second in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 21 and she was a solid third in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) at the same venue on March 14 before her Vinery Stud Stakes flop.

Set Square is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Cup odds of $34 with Ladbrokes, while Godolphin stayer Hartnell ($13) and Mongolian Khan ($13) are currently locked in a battle for favouritism.
