The Peter Snowden assault on Dubai with three year olds Sepoy and Helmet is going to plain with both horses arriving safely at Meydan racecourse.
Foreman Paul Snowden who is supervising the trip to Dubai said that both three year olds had settled in nicely and have been working on the tricky Tapeta track.
“Their work was very good, very sharp,” Snowden said.
“It is a testing surface. You have to be as fit as you possibly can be, otherwise you will die in the backside with 100m to go.”
“They did a good piece of work last Thursday. Both horses worked on their own.”
“They have done all their work, slow and fast, on the Tapeta surface just to get them used to that surface.”
“They worked really well, pulled up good. They’re relaxed, they’re enjoying themselves just as much as we are.”
Golden Slipper winner Sepoy is to run in the Group 1 $US2m Golden Shaheen (1200m) on Saturday night while the unpredictable Helmet will go around in the Group 2 $US2m UAE Derby (1800m) at Meydan.
Snowden is contemplating adding a tongue tie to Helmet’s gear after the he blew the start when the $4.20 favourite in the Group 1 $750,000 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3 and was never in the hunt finishing twelfth, over eleven lengths from the winner Mosheen.
“They get scoped quite regularly and he must have been playing around with his tongue,” Snowden said.
“He’s always been that type of horse, so we may tie it down on raceday.”
Sepoy and Helmet will be having their last run for Snowden on Saturday before being transferred to Darley’s Godolphin operation for a European campaign.
Jockey Joseph O’Brien has been confirmed as the rider for dual Cox Plate winner So You Think in the Group 1 US$10m Dubai World Cup (2000m) at Meydan on Saturday.
O’Brien is the son of Coolmore trainer Aiden O’Brien and got the nod over Ryan Moore and Seamus Heffernan who have both won Group ones on So You Think since his transfer from the Bart Cummings stable at Flemington.
