Se Sauver Heads To Thousand Guineas After Edward Manifold Win

Se Sauver has won the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at big odds as a part of today’s Turnbull Stakes Day at Flemington.

The three-year-old won the $220,000 race by the smallest of margins in front of Star Fashion, who placed second, and Solicit, who passed the post in third.

Se Sauver has now claimed two wins from seven race starts and has earned more than $162,000 in prize money during her horse racing career.

The Bel Esprit filly placed sixth in her last run in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude, which jockey Damian Lane labelled as a “catastrophe”.

“Her last run was a catastrophe,” Lane said.

“I was very confident going into today.. .She just needed the right luck in running.”

Lane admitted he wasn’t sure if Se Sauver had been able to hold off Star Fashion on the line.

“I honestly thought we were beat,” he said.

“She’s determined and she’s been without luck.”

Young up and coming trainer Matt Laurie was at the track to witness Se Sauver’s first Group victory in the 2013 Edward Manifold Stakes.

“We’re pretty confident in this horse,” Laurie said.

“We’ve liked it from the beginning.

“We thought she was well and truly a good shot today.

“Her run last start was phenomenal. Her sectionals were fantastic in a slowly run race.

“(It was a) good result. No words, I’m very happy.”

Laurie confirmed that Se Sauver would be heading to the $500,000 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse on October 16, 2013.

“(We’ll) certainly be going to the Thousand Guineas,” he said.

“If she’s sound and well then we’ll go to the Oaks.”

The Group 1 Crown Oaks will be run as part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington on Thursday November 7, 2013.
