Schofield to be 1/2kg over on Multilateral in Villiers

Top Sydney jockey Glyn Schofield has been granted permission to carry 1/2kg  over on the Chris Waller trained Multilateral in the Group 2 $175,000 Inglis Villiers (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Multilateral was handicapped on the minimum of 53kgs but with almost half of the fifteen horse field on 53.5kgs or less, Waller had trouble finding a suitable jockey to ride at the correct weight, prompting Racing New South Wales stewards to allow Schofield to ride overweight.

“Due to a shortage of suitable riders available at the weight, Racing NSW Stewards have granted permission for Glyn Schofield to ride Multilateral 1/2kg over that gelding’s handicapped weight of 53kg in the Group 2 Villiers on Saturday. G Schofield will now ride that gelding at 53.5kg,” Racing New South Wales had posted on their website.

Schofield was having his first ride on Multilateral when the grey gelding ran sixth to stablemate I’m Imposing in the Listed $100,000 Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on November 29 and is certain to give him every chance from barrier three.

Multilateral is just another English import that Waller has had success with the six year old chalking up his seventh win for the stable when he took out the Listed $150,000 Carlton Mid Wyong Cup (2100m) at Wyong on September 5 four starts back.

Festival Stakes winner I’m Imposing has drawn barrier twelve in the Villiers with Tye Angland to ride again while stablemate Strawberry Boy has been installed the equal favourite at $5.50 at Ladbrokes.com.au with handy Queensland miler Sir Moments.

Strawberry Boy has raced on the pace at his two runs for Waller and after winning first up for the stable in the Listed $100,000 Lander Toyota Ladies Day Cup (1400m) at Hawkesbury on November 6 led and battled on for third behind I’m Imposing in the Festival Stakes.

I’m Imposing is well up the market order at $9 while Multilateral is listed as a $19 chance.

Equal favourite Sir Moments made up plenty of ground in the straight to finish fifth to I’m Imposing in the Festival Stakes and will be ridden back in the field again after drawing barrier fourteen with Tim Bell to ride again.

Fellow Queenslander Rudy is also well in the betting at $7.50 coming off a stunning last start win in the Listed $100,000 Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes (1630m) at Doomben on November 29.
