Schofield On Strict Diet For Kingston Town Stakes Ride

Sydney jockey Glyn Schofield is about to begin a diet that will allow him to ride talented galloper King Saul in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic at Ascot this weekend.

Schofield will need to get down under King Saul’s weight allocation of 52 kilograms in time for the $500,000 race.

“I’ve got to lose a bit of weight,” Schofield said.

“I have to take off a bit of weight to ride at 53kg.

“They have given me a forewarning so to take off the extra kilo shouldn’t be a problem.

“I will take off a bit of weight earlier than later.”

King Saul won the Group 2 WA Guineas at Ascot on November 19 and is looking to win his first Group 1 race in this weekend’s Kingston Town.

The three-year-old has impressed since day one, winning three of his four career starts and accruing close to $300,000 in prize money.

Schofield Is confident the Flying Pegasus gelding can win Saturday’s big race.

“He is pretty explosive when he lets down,” he said.

“He’s got a pretty good turn of foot and stepping up in distance to the Kingston Town doesn’t look like it will be a problem at all to him.”
