Schofield Capitalises On Cassidy Ban With Buffering

Glyn Schofield

Glyn Schofield will ride Buffering in the Stradbroke

The recent turn of luck for Glyn Schofield has continued as he books the ride of Buffering in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Schofield fell and broke his collarbone in the Sydney Cup and missed plenty of good rides including a Group 1 victory with Hay List.

Since his return he’s won the Singapore Cup and then performed valiantly back in Brisbane.

With Hay List withdrawn from the Stradbroke Handicap he  was left without a ride but the suspension of Larry Cassidy has opened the door.

Cassidy copped a seven meeting suspension which will be put in place this weekend after the Queensland Oaks and rule him out until June 15th.

That means he’ll miss the Stradbroke and any hope in the TJ Smith and Queensland Derby, but it handed a chance to Schofield.

Trainer of Buffering Robert Heathcote reportedly contacted Schofield almost immediately after he learned of the Cassidy suspension and the jockey jumped at the chance.

Having said that Buffering is far from the favourite in the race after a horrible run last start in the Doomben 10,000.

He missed the start and was hard ridden to third before falling away drastically down the home straight to finish last.

Earlier this prep he showed a mountain of promise when he won the Group 3 Victory Stakes first up and then ran third to Black Caviar and Hay List in the BTC Cup.
