Sargent Stable Stars To Trial On Monday

Kirramosa and Thunder Fantasy are set to trial at Royal Randwick on Monday and trainer John Sargent is thrilled with both horses as they build towards the start of their 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival campaigns.

Kirramosa produced a tough staying effort to take out the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) and she was set for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but she was sent to the spelling paddock prematurely after she suffered a hamstring injury in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11.

Sargent told Racing Ahead that Kirramosa has recovered well from the injury and will trial on Monday before she starts her autumn preparation that is set to be centered around a tilt at races like the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 28 and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 11.

“She is back and everything is ironed out after she pulled up with a hind hamstring problem in the Caulfield Stakes,” Sargent said.

“We gave her a good spell and she is trialing on Monday at Randwick.

“As long as comes through the trial well and everything seems fine she will run through to The Championships.

“I am very happy with her and she is a mature mare now and everything is in good order.

“We will keep our fingers crossed and keep progressing.”

Thunder Lady was unlucky not to replicate the feat of Kirramosa and complete the Wakeful Stakes/Crown Oaks double during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and she will make her first public appearance since her tough second in the Crown Oaks at Royal Randwick on Monday.

Sargent revealed at the end of last year that the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 11 will be the major 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival target for Thunder Lady and he confirmed that the Mastercraftsman filly will likely only have three race starts heading into the Group 1 event.

“She is good and she is trialing on Monday as well.

“You won’t see the best of her until she gets to 2000.

“I think that she has grown a bit, she is huge now, and we will just get her up over ground and she will be aimed at the AJC (Australian) Oaks.

“She will stick to the fillies race.”

Thunder Lady is currently available at 2015 Australian Oaks odds of $10, while First Seal ($5) is a narrow favourite from Set Square ($6) and Winx ($7).
