Sargent Happy With Miss Mossman Ahead Of Vinery Stud Stakes

Miss Mossman will make her Australian racing debut in the 2014 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this weekend and trainer John Sargent is delighted with the way that the talented filly has settled in to his Randwick stable.

Miss Mossman stamped herself as a genuine Vinery Stud Stakes and Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) contender with a dominant win in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Trentham on March 15 and Sargent told Racing Ahead this morning that the Mossman filly had trained on strongly following the impressive win.

“She has done a treat,” Sargent said.

“I brought her over with Silent Achiever straight after she won the Oaks and she settled in beautifully.

“She is a very relaxed filly and a very good doer so I am very happy with her.

Nash (Rawiller) has been riding her in all her gallops and he has been very happy with her.

“She hasn’t missed a beat since she has been here and she is rock hard fit, which might help tomorrow on a wet track.”

Miss Mossman will jump from barrier three with Nash Rawiller on board this weekend and Sargent said that the three-year-old will take up a forward position in the early stages of the race.

Sargent is happy with the fitness levels of Miss Mossman heading into the 2014 Vinery Stud Stakes this weekend, but admits that he is slightly concerned about how the filly will handle the drop back to 2000 metres after performing strongly over 2400 metres.

“She possis up handy, she if is a forward running filly, and that will help her,” Sargent said.

“She will be able to get there without doing too much work.

“That will be ideal for her tomorrow.

“It is a very strong field and she is going back from 2400 when she won the New Zealand Oaks to 2000, so we probably have to run in this anyway because it would be five weeks going into the (Australian) Oaks in two weeks’ time.

“This will top us off nicely for the Oaks.

“If it is wet that will be make it a more testing as well and she is hard and fit.”

Miss Mossman is currently available at 2014 Vinery Stud Stakes odds of $13; with Solicit ($5) and Rising Romance ($5) currently equal favourites from Zanbagh ($6), Lucia Valentina ($8), Suavito ($11) and Marianne ($12).
