The Anthony Freedman trained Santa Ana Lane was able to visit the Group 1 winner’s stall on three occasions during the 2017 – 2018 with a win in the $500,000 Keno Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield during the 2017 Melbourne Spring Carnival as well as back to back Group 1 wins in the $1m Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in May and in the $1.5m Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben during the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Santa Ana Lane will run in the slot owned by Inglis in the $13m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 13.

Santa Ana Lane has had two recent barrier trials at Cranbourne for an eighth and a third in preparation for his return to the race track and Freedman’s right hand man, his son Sam, said that the six year old is shaping up in great order.

“He’s in really good order,” Sam Freedman told AAP.

“His trial was good the other day. He’ll run well but he’ll certainly come on from the run.

“He’s not screwed down for it. His target is third-up.”

“He’s working and trialling as well as he always has.”

Santa Ana Lane is marked as a $14 chance in early markets for The Everest with Ladbrokes.com.au while his stablemate Shoals is also a slot runner for The Star in The Everest and is listed at $15.

The Gerald Ryan trained Trapeze Artist heads The Everest betting at $4.80 ahead of last year’s winner Redzel at $6.50, Nature Strip at $7 and Vega Magic at $7.50.
