Sandown Program All About Kate Mallyon

Earlier in the week we brought you the story of Katelyn Mallyon, a 17 year old apprentice riding in Melbourne and attracting plenty of attention.

She choose race riding over a promising opportunity in the modelling world and on the back of a winning double at Moonee Valley fast became the hottest prospect in the industry.

We predicted the interest to be big but the sheer number of trainers looking to secure her services for this weekend has been staggering.

The fact she has a three kilogram claim no doubt helps but either way she’s in a prime position for another double, if not more, at Sandown Hillside on Saturday.

All up she’s booked rides in seven races and as you can see from the list below are couple have a bit of black type potential around them.

In race order they are: Spatha, Always Discreet, Shezaten, Abitofado, Under The Hat, Miss Octopussy and Scaredymac.

The likes of Always Discreet, Abitofado, Scaredymac and Miss Octopussy are all names the majority of punters are probably familiar with.

Miss Octopussy is especially one of these, specifically if you saw her last start run around Moonee Valley.

That time she was last out of the gates before being held up for a run off the turn.

Despite this she still managed to flash home for second spot over a distance of just 955m.

This weekend she will be stepped up to the 1000m in the Le Pines Funeral Handicap and assuming she jumps with the pack she looks hard to beat.

In many ways this book of rides is even more crucial for Mallyon as now she not only has more people watching her but more expectations as well.

If she can handle the pressure of being expected to win on good horses it will be yet another positive step in the career of this season’s most hyped young apprentice.
