Samaready one step closer to a Spring Carnival campiagn

Dual Group 1 winning mare Samaready is one step closer to another Spring Carnival campaign and is due to return to the Caulfield stables of Mick Price in about three weeks time.

Samaready is currently in pre training at Vinery Stud and General Manager Peter Orton says the More Than Ready mare looks in tremendous condition.

“She’s about a week into pre-training and looks fantastic,” Orton told Racing Victoria News.

“We’ve got two-and-half months to get her organised and get her mind on the job but if she continues looking the way she looks at the moment, she’ll race on.”

Samaready’s future was in the balance when she went to the spelling paddock following a disappointing Autumn Carnival but Price was always keen to give her another racing season before she was retired to stud.

“She’s only had twelve starts, is sound and I think she still has good racing in front of her,” Price said.

“She doesn’t handle heavy tracks properly, but she’s brave when she is in her zone.

“I’d like to go on and have another year with her, but that will be up to Peter Orton I guess.”

Samaready started her 2014 Autumn Carnival in fine style with a promising third to Snitzerland in the Group 1 $500,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 15 but she missed a place when sixth to stablemate Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 8.

At her next run Samaready could only beat one runner home when ninth to Spirit Of Boom in the Group 1 $400,000 Hacer Group William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 21.

And then a planned trip to Adelaide to run in the Group 1 $400,000 Sportingbet Classic (1200m) at Morphettville on April 26 was aborted after she sustained a cut to the fetlock which forced her off to the paddock.

Samaready threw herself straight into the racing spotlight as a two year old and won the 2012 Group 1 $1m Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield as favourite after winning at her first two race starts.

Then after twelve months off the scene Samaready resumed in the 2013 Spring as a four year old to win first up in the Group 3 $135,000 The Heath (1100m) at Caulfield before going on to win her second Group 1 with a four lengths victory in the $450,000 Programmed Moir Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in September.

Samaready has collected over $1.6 million in prizemoney from six wins and two thirds from twelve starts.
