Blue Diamond winner Samaready has jumped to the top of Golden Slipper betting after her dominate win at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Mick Price trained two year old is now the $4.60 favourite with the next four spots being filled by the Gai Waterhouse youngsters of Raceway ($6.50), No Looking Back ($9) and Magic Millions winner Driefontein and Pierro both at $13.
Samaready is on track to emulate the deeds of super three year Sepoy who last year took out the Blue Diamond – Golden Slipper double.
Price said that he will give Samaready a few days off in the paddock even though she pulled up fine after her devastating win in the Group 1 $1m Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).
“She pulled up great,” Price said. “She was about 95 percent right when I looked at her and I was very pleased with the way she coped with it all.
“It was a hot day, she took it all in her stride. There was a little bit of feed left in her bin but that’s to be expected.
“She raced on a hot day, it was a hot night in the fillies’ barn and she dealt with it much better than some of those that didn’t have a race. I was really happy with what I found.”
Price is confident that the More Than Ready filly will recover completely over the next week and has mapped out a short Sydney program on her way to the Group 1 $3.5m AAMI Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 7.
“I’m confident she will train on,” Price said.
“We’ll have another look at her on Wednesday.”
The Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Slipper Trial (1200m) at Rosehill in four weeks will be Samaready’s lead up to the Golden Slipper which is another two weeks after that.
“If the Golden Slipper was four weeks away, she would go into it without another run,” Price said.
“However, the race is six weeks away so she will need a run to keep up to the mark and the Riesling Slipper Trial is the right way to go, two weeks out from the race.”
The More Than Ready filly has maintained her unbeaten record with her Blue Diamond win, having won her two previous start for Price and jockey Craig Newitt.
Newitt has partnered Samaready to all three victories which started when she won first up at Flemington in December then returned from a spell to win the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield on February 11.
