Golden Slipper favourite Samaready cemented her place at the top of the betting with a crushing win at Rosehill today.
Samaready easily accounted for a smart field of fillies in the Group 2 $300,000 Jacobs Creek Reisling Slipper Trial (1200m) and trainer Mick Price says all he has to do is keep her breathing until Slipper day in two weeks.
Price was very satisfied with the easy win at the finish after Craig Newitt had her second last in the early stages.
Newitt pulled the $1.50 favourite out just before the home turn and even though she had a small battle getting past Snitzerland, once she got her head in front drew away for a comfortable win.
The John Thompson trained Hussousa ran on strongly along the inside for second with Meidung making up some ground for third.
“I think that’s as much as you want to see. She was second last but not a long way off, I thought he made the right move at the right time when they were walking up front,” Price said.
“She got run off the track a little bit. I thought the last 100m was good and if she would have run second I would have been disappointed.”
“I’ve tried to allow plenty of improvement leading into the Slipper and she is basically done and ready now.”
Samaready clocked a slightly faster time than Pierro earlier in the day and will keep her spot at the top of Golden Slipper betting.
Newitt rode her supremely confident and keep her out of trouble as he scouted wide on the home turn and once he asked her for her effort she responded as she did in the Blue Diamond and scores an easy two length win in the end.
“She begun really good. They just went mad early and set up a good speed,” Newitt said.
The beauty about his filly is she just does everything I ask her to do. I was a couple of lengths further back than I wanted to be but I was always confident.”
“I put into the race before the corner and made a reasonably long run on her. She was strong on the line.”
Newitt has maintained his one hundred per cent record on the unbeaten Samaready with four wins from four rides.
