Sister Madly is targeting a Group 1 win

John Sadler took it as quite an achievement when he picked up Sister Madly to his stables, the ex Anthony Cummings racehorse valued at a million dollars in the auction ring.

The purchase was made by Edinburgh Park Syndicate and Sadler was given the keys with instructions of delivering a Group 1 win.

She’s already placed at the top level when second to More Joyous in the Flight Stakes and she has a victory in the Southern Cross Stakes herself.

That makes her an attractive broodmare as is, but things can get even better should Sadler claim that Group 1 victory.

“She was trained by Anthony Cummings, went through the ring and was sold for a million dollars,” Sadler said.

“We were lucky enough to get to train her…She hasn’t put a foot wrong since she’s been here.

“I really can’t fault her, she’s top class.”

Sister Madly will have her first start of the season this weekend in the How Now Stakes at Caulfield.

She hasn’t raced since the Galaxy back in April where she tailed off after not handling the heavy going.

“It’s the right type of race for her to kick off in, she’ll improve in whatever she does but I’ll be very surprised if she’s not competitive,” Sadler said.

“She just has not done one thing wrong since we’ve had her, the important thing is we’ve been able to keep her sound so far.

“She’s our main hope for the spring and looking forward to hopefully opening her account on Saturday.”

The long term goal for Sister Madly looks being Derby Day at Flemington before a spell and probably her final race prep ahead of next autumn.

“If she could get the mile maybe a race like the Myer Classic on Derby Day and in the autumn the Sangster Stakes,” Sadler said.

She’s not the only horse to return for the Sadler team this weekend either with promising if not frustrating mare Heidilicious running in a mares handicap race on the same card.

The four year old was one of the most impressive horses of the Brisbane winter carnival but that didn’t transcend into results due to a string of horrible starts.

“We had some issues with her in Queensland as far as the barriers were concerned…we seem to have got over that,” Sadler said.

“She’s had a jumpout here where she went in, put the barrier blanket on her and did everything right.”

Heidilicious won’t be following a Caulfield Cup / Melbourne Cup path in 2011 though, that plan put on hold in favour of an easier road.

“We’ve decided to bypass the Cups this year and more look at them next year,” Sadler said.

“Her main goal this year is the Sandown Classic and then hopefully we can go onto better things later.”
