Scared Falls showed his liking for the 1600m at Randwick with another feature race win in the Group 1 $350,000 George Main Stakes (1600m) today.

Aided by a first class ride from Hong Kong’s leading jockey Zac Purton, Sacred Falls ($4) was able to run away from his stablemate Royal Descent ($6.50) to score a comfortable win with Laser Hawk ($61) running a much improved race to hang on for third after setting the pace.
Winning trainer Chris Waller saddled up three runners in the George Main Stakes and as well as training the quinella, filled fourth spot with Hawkspur who raced back in the field today.
Sacred Falls was having his third run back from a spell and continued his good form over the Randwick 1600m after winning back to back Group 1 Doncaster Miles (1600m) in 2013 and 2014.
Sacred Falls’ previous best form has been on heavy tracks and Waller was glad to get a Group 1 win on good surface with the five year old.
“He a very good horse and it was good to see him win today on a good tack, he is not just a wet tracker,” Waller said.
“Prior to coming to me he won a Group 1 in New Zealand on a pretty firm track and it was good to show Australia today that he is not just a wet tracker, simple as that.”
“That’s his fourth Group 1 winner all at a mile, what more can you ask.”
“It’s just good when a plan comes off. He’s been set for the race as soon as they said they would continue racing him. He could have been in the breeding barn, thankfully they pushed on.
“He showed that he is a pretty dominant horse.”
Purton was at his best again and after having Sacred Falls travelling sweetly behind the leaders, waited patiently in the straight before switching back to the inside to gain a split and go on to record another Group 1 win in Australia.
“It is good. I haven’t had the opportunities here. Around the world I’ve been going really well and it’s good to them back home now,” Purton said.
“He’s a terrific horse, Chris has done a great job with him and he loves the mile here, fill credit to him.”
Royal Descent ran another honest race to record her third second in a row this campaign and third placed Laser Hawk showed a new lease of life with Kerrin McEvoy taking the six year old to lead before fighting on to fill the placings.
