Adelaide is set to make his first public appearance since winning the Group 1 $3m Sportingbet Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley during last year’s Melbourne Spring Carnival when he lines up in a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill on Tuesday.

Leading Sydney rider Hugh Bowman is likely to ride the Irish galloper in the trial but Ryan is set to be lured to come back to Australia to compete in the rich Sydney Autumn Carnival and ‘The Championships’.

Champion Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien prepared Adelaide for his historic Cox Plate victory but the Galileo stallion was left in Australia under the care of Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller.

Waller has been pleased with the progress of Adelaide still he has taken over his training and is keen to get his trial behind him.

“He has settled into the stable really well and is a pleasure to work with,” Waller told AAP.

“He is obviously a horse of quality which he has already proved in Australia by winning the Cox Plate.

“He is a gentleman of a horse.”

Waller confirmed that the Queen Elizabeth Stakes will be the Autumn Carnival target for Adelaide but is yet to pencil in any lead up races but the Group 1 $1m George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 21 has been mentioned.

“I’m not sure where he will kick off,” Waller said.

“The Queen Elizabeth is his race but how we get there has yet to be decided.

“I’m conscious not to overdo it. I want to have a horse to send back to Aidan.”

Following ‘The Championships’, Adelaide will return to O’Brien’s stables in Ireland and prepare for the Royal Ascot Carnival in England.

Waller and his team will have a busy day at the Rosehill barrier trials on Tuesday with forty-one horses nominated for the sixteen heats.
