Ryan Hoping For Magic Millions Trifecta

Gerald Ryan has been a constant feature in our articles this week and with good reason given he looks like being a major feature of the 2012 Magic Millions Carnival.

Ryan has at least one shot, in the feature event no less, and he has two other hopefuls that could prove highly valuable as well.

The big gun though is Amorino which is one of the favourites for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic.

He, along with Dreifontein for Gai Waterhouse and local hope Sizzling, hold a big gap over their rivals in the minds of punters and betting agencies.

Ryan says he’s giving Amorino as easy time of it at the moment before he ramps things up closer to the carnival.

“He hasn’t done any fast work all week, he came down the track this morning…he looks pretty good in himself,” Ryan said.

While Amorino is booked for a trip up to the Gold Coast on Monday night whether or not he’s joined by stablemate Angel Of Mercy still remains to be seen.

The filly is on the borderline for entry to the Magic Millions Guineas and Ryan says she will now only go up if it’s for that race.

“We’ll know more Monday when we get the final fields for the 3yo race,” he said.

“If she gets a run she’ll go up, if not she’ll stay here.”

The third of the Ryan Brigade is Top Drop and he has more on the line than just a Magic Millions assignment.

After his barrier antics last start where he missed the kick by 15 lengths he’ll have to pass a trial to not only earn a trip north but to remain a horse.

“He goes to the trials tomorrow at Rosehill…he’s just carrying on like a stallion,” Ryan said.

“If he trials alright he’ll go up, if he misbehaves again he’ll be a gelding on Monday.

“There’s a rusty knife hanging outside his box.”
