Russian Revolution early favourite for Doomben 10,000

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman agrees with market framers that Russian Revolution should be the early favourite for the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Bowman won’t be riding at the Doomben 10000 meeting but said that the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Russian Revolution is the horse he would prefer to ride in the weight for age sprint that has been reduced to 1200m from 1350m this year.

“If I had my choice of rides, Russian Revolution would be the one I would want to be riding,” Bowman told The Courier-Mail.

“Without even knowing the full field, he’s the right type of horse for the race he’s taking on.”

Bowman continued his outstanding season in the saddle and wrapped up a profitable weekend with victory on Lucky Bubbles in the Group 1 HK$14,000,000 The Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1200m) at Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday which came on the back of a winning treble at the Gold Coast’s Hollindale Stakes meeting on Saturday.

Bowman was successful on the Snowden trained Taking Aim in the Group 3 $125,000 Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) and followed that up with a winning double for trainer Chris Waller on Dawn Wall in the Listed $125,000 Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) and on Religify in the Listed $100,000 Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m).

Russian Revolution claimed a Group 1 trophy when he scored a narrow win over his stablemate Redzel in the $700,000 Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 18 and the pair look certain to clash again in the Doomben 10,000.

While co-trainer Paul Snowden is pleased with the progress of Russian Revolution who has won a 1045m Randwick barrier trial on April 28 since finishing sixth at his latest outing in the Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 1, he said not to discard the chances of last start Hall Mark Stakes winner Redzel.

“He was only narrowly beaten by Russian Revolution in the Galaxy and I think his form is just as good, so there’s not a lot between them,” Paul Snowden said.

A good performance by the three year old Russian Revolution and Redzel in the Doomben 10,000 on Saturday could see them progress onto the newly programmed Group 1 $700,000 Darley Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm on May 27.

The Kingsford Smith Cup was previously run as the Group 1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben a fortnight before the Doomben 10,000.

Early market order for the Doomben 10000 at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.30 Russian Revolution, $7 Music Magnate, $7.50 Fell Swoop, $8 Redzel, $11 Start Wondering, Voodoo Lad, $13 Takedown, $15 Counterattack, Rebel Dane, $17 Derryn, $21 In Her Time, $26 Clearly Innocent, $34 or better the rest.
