Part owner David Raphael messaged on Twitter today that the Encosta De Lago colt would be sent to the paddock trouble free for a well-deserved break.

Raphael stressed that Rubick didn’t have any issues after running fourth to Earthquake in the Group 1 $1m Sportingbet Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

“Rubick has shown us signs that a spell is the best thing for him after two pressure runs at Caulfield. He is as sound as a bell,” Raphael tweeted.

Rubick was sent out the $3.70 second favourite for the Blue Diamond Stakes at his third race start after creating a huge impression with a debut win over 1000m at Randwick on January 25 followed by an effortless win in the Group 3 $150,000 Sportingbet Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (1100m) at Caulfield on February 8.

Top Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan had a high opinion of Rubick from early days in the stable and was quick to put him in the same mould as his smart two year old Snitzel who was sent out favourite for the 2005 Golden Slipper before finishing twelfth to Stratum.

Snitzel then went on to win the Group 1 $350,000 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield as a three year old before becoming a very successful sire.

“To run fourth in a Group I at your third start is pretty impressive and I’m sure he’ll win a good race when the time’s right,” Ryan told Racenet.

“There’s plenty of good races in the spring for him”.

Blue Diamond Stakes winner Earthquake has earned a week in the paddock before trainer Peter Snowden starts to wind her up again for the Golden Slipper.

Snowden will give the Exceed And Excel filly one lead up run in the Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 22.
