Royal Descent On Track For Warwick Farm Return

Royal Descent proved she was up to the task of continuing her winning autumn form with an impressive barrier trial performance in Sydney today.

The Redoute’s Choice mare produced an eye catching run as she flew home to finish second.

Royal Descent sat second last for much of the race, before peeling off and making her run down the outside of the field.

Despite being five lengths off the leader going into the final straight, she was only beaten by a nose on the line.

Royal Descent has won four of her seven race starts and has earned more than $529,000 in prize money during her career.

The mare’s most recent result was a stunning 10 length win in the Group 1 Australian Oaks at Royal Randwick Racecourse in April.

Prior to that run, Royal Descent won the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes by two and a half lengths at the same track.

All eyes will be on the Chris Waller-trained mare when she resumes her spring racing carnival campaign in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality at Warwick Farm Racecourse on August 24.

Waller also trialed talented stayer Kelinni in this morning’s barrier trails at Rosehill.

The five-year-old pleased his trainer with a solid run and may begin his prep in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes later this month before going on towards the Craven Plate in October and the Melbourne Cup a month later.

“He won’t run in the Metropolitan this year,” Waller said.

“He will start in the Craven Plate on the same day and take the easiest path we can find to the Melbourne Cup.”

Kelinni has won nine of his 25 race starts and has earned more than $935,000 in prize money.

The Refuse To Bend gelding earned a late ballot exemption into the Melbourne Cup last year with a win in the Group 3 The Lexus, before placing an impressive fourth in the Cup just three days later.
