RN Irwin Stakes taken by We’re Gonna Rock

Race-favourite We’re Gonna Rock has justified his title, winning the Group 3 $115,000 RN Irwin Stakes (1100m) at Morphetville today.

The Fastnet Rock gelding is unbeaten in 2012, with today’s victory coming on the back of his first-up win in the McClusky Public Relations Handicap at Morphetville on March 10.

Speaking before the race, trainer Mark Kavanagh was confident the horse would perform on the back of an excellent preparation.

“He’s trained on and we’re really happy with him, he’ll get back and run home,” Kavanagh said.

“Catapulted will be on the pace and Valentine Miss will go back and run home.

“I’m not leaning any way in particular, it’s just going to be how the race is run.”

The next stop on the road for the RN Irwin Stakes winner is The Goodwood but if wonder mare Black Caviar is a surprise inclusion the leading Adelaide trainer will be forced to reasses.

“Going towards The Goodwood, but unfortunately we may have to reassess that because of the Black Caviar situation,” Kavanagh said.

The five-year-old now has four career victories from 12 starts and has collected more than $250,000 in prize money.

He won the race by 0.7 of a length ahead of Anthony Freedman-trained gelding First Command and two-time Group level winner Catapulted.
