New Zealand mare Rising Romance has been scratched from Saturday’s Group 1 $1.5m The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill because of an ongoing foot issue.

The Donna Logan trained mare was inspected by veterinarian surgeon Dr Craig Suann who found her to be lame in to off fore leg due to an ongoing foot injury leaving the stewards no option but to withdraw her from Saturday’s weight for age contest.
The Racing New South Wales press release said: “Please be advised that a veterinary examination of Rising Romance by Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr Craig Suann this afternoon, found the mare to be lame in the off-fore leg due to a foot issue.”
Logan had been confident that Rising Romance would be fit to run this week after initially responding to treatment after pulling up sore after running second to Scratchy Bottom in the Group 3 $150,000 Hertz Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
The Ruakaka trainer’s plan of running her in the Group 1 $1.6m Schweppes Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick on April 11 look doubtful after missing the important lead up run in The BMW.
Rising Romance had performed creditably in Australia previously, showing her liking for the 2400m with a win in the 2014 Group 1 $1m Seven News Australian Oaks at Randwick twelve months ago and followed that up in the Spring with a second to Admire Rakti in the Group 1 $3m Caulfield Cup at Caulfield.
The well performed Japanese stayer To The World remains the $2.30 favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au for The BMW just ahead of the John O’Shea trained Hartnell at $3.80.
Next in the market order is Lucia Valentina at $8.50, Protectionist at $9.50 and last year’s BMW winner Silent Achiever at $12.
