Rich Enuff stamped himself as the most exciting colt in Australia when he took out the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) in dominant fashion during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but he was denied a maiden Group 1 victory by Team Snowden-trained Shooting To Win in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

The son of Written Tycoon missed the 2015 Autumn Carnival due to a range of niggling injuries and he eventually returned to the races with a credible second in the Group 3 Theshark.com.au Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 29, but he failed to fire in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and he was sent to the spelling paddock after he failed to beat home a single runner in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 23.

Keys admits that it is a hit to his ego to give away the training rights to Rich Enuff, but he told G1X that he had to look at the best interests of the horse, who will be worth significantly more at stud if he is able to score a Group 1 victory during the autumn.

“The horse is there now,” Keys said

“There’s no debating, it’s real.

“Everything now is negotiable though in terms of where the horse races and for how long he continues to race.

“I’m a realist, the stud has a vested interested, as we do.

“They believe the Snowdens can look at an autumn Group 1 with him and we do too for obvious reasons.

“If he can win one, he’ll quadruple his value.

“He’s still the best horse I’ve trained and I hope to be a good owner in the autumn.”

While the change of trainer lacked the drama surrounding the decision to move The Cleaner away from Mick Burles, Paul Snowden admitted that it was still a tough choice to accept Rich Enuff and he said that the stable would not have done so without the blessing of Keys.

Snowden said that the stable was yet to determine an exact path for Rich Enuff in the autumn, but he revealed that the four-year-old would likely race exclusively in Sydney during his upcoming campaign.

Rich Enuff is yet to record a Group 1 victory, but he has still accumulated over $500,000 in prizemoney in his ten race starts.
