Rich Enuff opened at a quote of $2.50 in Caulfield Guineas betting markets when the final field was released yesterday and briefly drifted out to $2.60, but he has been very well backed in the last 24 hours.
The Written Tycoon colt will jump from barrier ten on Saturday, but jockey Michael Rodd is not concerned about the wide draw and is confident that the star three-year-old can deliver him a second career win in the Caulfield Guineas after he took out the 2007 edition of the race with Whobegotyou.
I’m really happy, it’s a perfect draw for him,” Rodd told Racing.Com.
“He’s got incredible gate speed, so there’s not much of a problem of getting across in front of the field, it’s more so where the other pace is drawn around him.
“There’s a couple out wide that have drawn pretty ordinary and they’re going to have to push forward, so we’ll just slide across with those guys early and let it sort itself out.”
Looks Like The Cat finished second behind Rich Enuff in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 13 and the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on September 28 and is currently on the second line of Caulfield Guineas betting.
The Tony Gollan-trained colt opened at a quote of $6, but was quickly backed into $5.50 and is the horse that punters consider the main danger to Rich Enuff in the 2014 Caulfield Guineas field.
The early market mover in Caulfield Guineas betting has been Golden Rose Stakes placegetter Shooting To Win, who is into a quote of $7 after opening at $8 yesterday.
Shooting To Win was far too good for the rest of the field in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 27 and co-trainer Paul Snowden believes that the son of Northern Meteor is just as good as previous Caulfield Guineas winners Helmet and Long John.
“He is as good as all of them, there is no doubt about that,” Snowden said.
“He has really good ability this horse and he still doesn’t know how good he is yet.”
Gai Waterhouse-trained Almalad is also taking winning form into the Caulfield Guineas after taking out the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 26, but has been an early drifter in betting and is out to odds of $7.50.
Vain Stakes winner Chivalry ($13 out to $16), David Hayes-trained Zululand ($34 out to $41), Godolphin colt Kumaon ($15 out to $19), John Moloney-trained Stingray ($34 out to $41) were other early drifters in Caulfield Guineas betting, while there has been a sprinkling of support for Stutt Stakes runner-up Moonovermanhattan ($34 into $26) and Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison-trained Zebulon ($17 into $15).
Favourites have won ten of the past 30 editions of the Caulfield Guineas, while four of the past five winners have come through the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
