There was plenty of speculation about tactics in the lead-up to the Concord Stakes, but Kerrin McEvoy went straight to the front on Redzel and took control of the race.

Spieth made his move coming around the bend and Nieta looked like a danger at the 250 metre mark, but Redzel was simply too fast for his rivals and he kicked clear before he ran away from his rivals late.

McEvoy revealed after the race that he was instructed by Team Snowden to take up the running and he was brimming in praise for the speed shown by the Snitzel gelding.

“Peter and Paul said to me that he is fast and that I should use the first furlong to take control of the race and build it up from there,” McEvoy said.

“He has arguably improved into this preparation.”

The Everest has been pinpointed as a potential target race for Redzel during the 2017 Spring Racing Carnival and McEvoy is adamant that the five-year-old deserves a place in the $10 million race.

“He deserves a place in the field,” McEvoy said.

“Everything is pointing to him having a great preparation.

“You think that he has been around for ages, but he is actually only five-years-old.

“He is a lovely horse and it is great to be on board him today.

“Triple Crown have a great bunch of horses and Peter and Paul are enjoying training form them.”

Spieth overraced in the early stages of the Concorde Stakes and was a touch disappointing late, while Nieta loomed as the winner before fading in the concluding stages.
