The Everest hopeful Redzel has drawn the outside barrier in the small six horse field for the Group 3 $150,000 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Redzel will be having his first run back after winning the Group 1 $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben on May 13 and another winning performance could attract the attention of slot holders for the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Redzel will then head to Melbourne for the Group 1 $500,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley on September 29 to further create some interest for The Everest.

“We have to space his runs out so if he won both of them or even if he only won the Moir it has to afford him a slot in The Everest,” Paul Snowden said.

“That will only come on how his performances are this time in and it will paint a clearer picture as we go along.”

Redzel is a natural front runner as he showed with his all the way win in the Doomben 10,000, but Kerrin McEvoy will have to be wary of the speedy Super Too who has drawn in close at barrier two.

The Marc Connors trained Super Too showed a clean set of heels with some early blistering pace to lead all of the way to win a BenchMark 84 Handicap over the same course and distance as the Concorde Stakes on August 19.

The Hinchinbrook mare will be stepping up sharply in class in the Concorde Stakes but jockey Tim Clark is certain to use the same tactics as Blake Shinn did at Randwick last start.

The Bryce Heys trained Spieth is also resuming for the Spring and will jump from barrier three with Corey Brown in the saddle.

The anticipated hot speed up front will give Spieth every chance to finish the race off strongly as he did in his two Group 1 seconds in the $1m Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington during the 2016 Melbourne Spring Carnival and in the $750,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington in this year’s Autumn Carnival.

The consistent sprinter The Monstar has drawn the rails and the Brett Cavanough trained seven year old will be ridden by Josh Adams.
