Redzel failed to live up to market expectations in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 15, but co-trainer Paul Snowden is happy with the promising colt ahead of the 2015 Run To The Rose at the same venue this weekend.

Redzel was extremely well-backed in the lead-up to the San Domenico Stakes after he produced an eye-catching barrier trial over 735 metres at Royal Randwick on July 31, but he did not have a great deal of luck in running in the Group 3 event and he could finish no better than fifth behind Run To The Rose rival Japonisme.
Snowden believes that there was still plenty of merit in the San Domenico Stakes performance of Redzel and he told Racing Ahead that the son of Snitzel has taken plenty of benefit out of the run heading into the 2015 Run To The Rose.
“We were still very happy with the run,” Snowden said.
“He is a horse that is probably going to improve throughout the preparation, he is quite a gross colt and we sort of raced against his general racing style to try and get him a bit of cover.
“He fought the rider until he did that and all of a sudden the tempo changed and they really started to quicken and he gassed out the last 100.
“We use Vancouver as a mark stick and to finish within two lengths of him, we were quite satisfied.
“Going forward we know we have enough improvement to mix it with them again and tomorrow we will judge him on that performance.”
Redzel is set to have just the fourth race start of his career in the Run To The Rose and he took out the Tab.com.au Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm on March 19 before he finished a more than credible third behind Furnaces and Regatta Rebel in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on April 6.
Redzel is currently available at 2015 Run To The Rose odds of $9 with Ladbrokes and he is on the sixth line of betting behind San Domenico Stakes winner Japonisme ($2.45), Godolphin-owned Exosphere ($4.60), the undefeated Press Statement ($5), the lightly-raced Holler ($7.50) and Gai Waterhouse-trained Raphael’s Cat ($8.50).
The Snowdens are chasing their first win in the Run To The Rose after previously finishing in the placings with Helmet (third behind Smart Missile in 2011) and Epaulette (third behind Pierro in 2012).
