Dual Group 1 winner Red Tracer will begin her broodmare duties at Kitchwin Hills in the Hunter Valley in the Spring after being retired following her unplaced run in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Red Tracer was aiming for back to back wins in the Group 1 weight for age for the fillies and mares but could only manage to finish a creditable sixth to the Gai Waterhouse trained Cosmic Endeavour.
Red Tracer put in her usual one hundred per cent and fought every inch of the way after being given a good run midfield by regular rider Nash Rawiller after jumping from a wide gate.
As well as winning last year’s Tattersall’s Tiara, Red Tracer also won the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington at last year’s Melbourne Spring Carnival when she beat stablemate Catkins.
Red Tracer was a great competitor at Group 1 level, racing sixteen times at the elite level, and was also known as a great wet tracker, winning eight times on a slow or heavy surface.
The Chris Waller stables at Rosehill will sadly miss the six year old mare who has been a top performer from her three year old season with the Chris Waller Racing Facebook page posting the following farewell.
“Though she be but small, she’s fierce and as a race mare Red Tracer was also strong enough and generous enough to take the whole CWR team on a thrilling ride over the past four and a half years.
“The Red Tracer ride was a bit of a roller coaster, not only for her riders who she kept on their toes each day, but also for the stable and Geoff and Mary Grimish as she agonisingly tried her heart out every start, going down in Group 1 races by the barest of margins before she cracked her first a year ago in the Tatt’s Tiara followed by her brilliant second Group 1 in the Myer Classic in the spring.
“Although we won’t get to welcome her back to Rosehill we can’t wait to follow her progress as a broodmare alongside her mother Kisma at Kitchwin Hills. The winner of two Group 1 races, the little legend leaves her two younger brothers Duty First and Counterattack with some big shoes to fill! Thanks Red Tracer!”
Red Tracer earned over $2.3 million in prizemoney from fifteen wins, seven seconds and seven thirds from thirty-eight starts.
