Red Tracer A Chance For Second Tattersall’s Tiara Win

Trainer Chris Waller is confident that Red Tracer can bounce back from her tenth place finish in the Stradbroke Handicap to win the 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm this afternoon.

Red Tracer was well supported heading into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 7, but she was forced to settle towards the tail of the field and was caught wide in the early stages before battling home fairly to finish tenth.

Waller told Sky Racing HQ that there was plenty that went against Red Tracer in the Stradbroke Handicap and he is confident that she can return to winning form in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara this weekend to join Bonanova as the only back-to-back winner of the Group 1 event.

“She had no luck the other day, not only did we go back in a slowly run race, but she was caught very wide,” Waller said.

“That made it hard to do any better than where she finished and that being a handicap was probably the third reason for her defeat.

“Tomorrow’s race really suits, obviously the wide draw isn’t ideal, but we overcame it last year and hopefully she can do it again tomorrow.”

Red Tracer was the star mare of the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, winning both the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 19 and the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 2, and she started her autumn preparation with a comfortable victory in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1.

The Dane Shadow mare finished an unlucky third in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick on March 15 and was well-backed in the lead-up to the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), but finished a disappointing tenth.

Red Tracer returned to a semblance of her best form, but was unable to score a third win at Group 1 level when third in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 19 before her unlucky effort in the Stradbroke

Cosmic Endeavour is currently on top of 2014 Tattersall’s Tiara betting markets at a quote of $4.80, while Red Tracer ($5) is on the second line of betting from stablemate Catkins ($5.50) and Coolmore Classic winner Steps In Time ($6).
