Red Cadeaux Primed for Australian Cup Success

Red Cadeaux etched his name into Australian racing folklore when running second for a third time in the 2014 edition of the Melbourne Cup, and will reportedly line up for the 2015 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington in a fortnight in exceptional condition.

Posting an impressive record of seven wins and a further 18 minor place finishes over his 48 start career so far, Red Cadeaux is a proven performer over tracks of all integrities and distances, having secured notable results in each of Britain, Ireland, France, the Middle East, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia.

Progressing to a credible sixth in the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) following his most recent tilt at the Race That Stops a Nation, trainer Ed Dunlop’s stable foreman Robin Trevor Jones told TVN the Cadeaux Genereux gelding’s proven experience over the distance of the Australian Cup dictates he will be in the finish come March 14th.

“In a sensible race on sensible ground I think he will run some sort of race,” Trevor Jones said.

“We’re going to get him to the Australian Cup as far as we can. He has always run well first time out.

“We’re expecting a big run.”

Kept to a typically light schedule since arriving in Australia last month, Trevor Jones said the team is confident Red Cadeaux’s close run for second in the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Dubawi World Cup (2000m) proves he is more than capable of a competitive performance.

“He can’t handle it. We know he’s got speed for a mile and a quarter (2000m), he showed that in Dubai,” he said of a heavy work load.

“He’s a horse now that you train pretty similarly for any sort of race.”

Incredibly now and a rising ten-year-old, Red Cadeaux has performed to a high standard in each of his four trips to Australia so-far, but will contest his first Autumn Carnival preparation this time in.

Included in nominations for each of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) and Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) on Day 2 of The Championships, Red Cadeaux is currently rated a generous $13 chance for success in the 2015 Australian Cup with Ladbrokes Australia.
