Border Rebel will run in Scone tomorrow before embarking on a Brisbane assignment to once again look for Group 1 glory.

His run in Scone will be in an unlisted quality handicap over 1100m but it will be far from a sure win.

Leading the field as the top weight is Group 1 winner Atomic Force looking to bounce back after running second to Buffering last start.

Trainer of Border Rebel Sue Grills is herself a country trainer (based in Tamworth) and as such she’s very excited to be running in a quality event at Scone.

“It’s wonderful for Scone and it’s really good for country trainer’s to have this sort of money and we don’t have to travel too far,” She said.

Border Rebel won last start up at Eagle Farm so she has plenty of expectations for the five-year-old gelding.

“He’s really well and I’m positive he’ll run a very good race,” She said.

“After the Expressway (6th two starts back) I put him in the paddock for two or three weeks, he came back really well and his speed is good, I think he’s better off being fresh.”

Border Rebel will be carrying 60kgs in the race, half a kilo less than Atomic Force plus he has the advantage of barrier one.

Assuming everything goes to plan it’s expected that Border Rebel will head north with aspirations for the Doomben 10,000 and the Stradbroke Handicap.

“We’ll go to the 10,000 and if he comes through that well and runs a good race he’ll be on to the Stradbroke,” She said.
