Ready For Victory made his racing debut with a fast-finishing victory in the Listed Festival Of Racing 1000 (1000m) at Flemington on March 7 and Price opted to take the talented juvenile to Sydney for the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) in just his second race start.

The More Than Ready colt travelled nicely in the early stages of the Caulfield Guineas, but he hung out badly coming into the home turn and he ended up close to the outside but was still able to finish in fourth behind Vancouver, English and Lake Geneva.

Ready For Victory remained in Sydney for the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m), but he overraced badly in the run and he could finish no better than seventh.

He was sent to the spelling paddock following his Sires Produce Stakes flop, but he is now back in work ahead of the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival and Price told Racing Ahead that he believes the Caulfield Guineas is a better option for the rising three-year-old then the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.

“He is an Eliza Park International colt and you are always trying to win the Group 1s,” Price said.

“Realistically there are two Group 1 three-year-old races.

“The Coolmore would be a fantastic race to win to get value on a colt or there is the Caulfield Guineas, but I think that he is better suited in the Caulfield Guineas myself.

“He is out of a Zabeel mare and in his first start over 1000 metres he was way off the bridle, so I wouldn’t think that he would be quick enough for the Coolmore.

“We will set him for the Caulfield Guineas and see how we go.”

Price is chasing his first win in the Caulfield Guineas after previously finishing third with Kempinsky in 2003 and missing the placings with Moonovermanhattan (seventh in 2014), Let Go Lenni (seventh in 2012), Secret Hills (sixth in 2011), Lord Tavistock (15th in 2008), Perfectly Ready (sixth in 2005) and Acee Deecee (11th in 2002).

Ready For Victory is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Guineas odds of $11 and is on the fifth line of betting behind Vancouver ($4), Pride Of Dubai ($6), Exosphere ($9) and Press Statement ($11).
