English import Raw Impulse is still an outside chance of running in the Group 1 $650,000 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben on May 21.

Raw Impulse is an odds chance to collect a hat trick of wins on Australian soil when he lines up in the $80,000 Racing Photos BenchMark 90 Handicap (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The four year old has only had two runs for the Darren Weir stable since arriving from England for a debut win in a 1500m BenchMark 78 Handicap at Moonee Valley on March 24 followed by a win in an 1800m BenchMark 78 Handicap at Caulfield on April 23.
Raw Impulse was included in the first acceptances for the Doomben and Weir said that it could still be an option if the lightly raced import was to record an easy win at Caulfield.
“I’d say probably not but if he happened to win easily on Saturday and have a real soft run you’d be pretty upset if you didn’t have him in it,” Weir told racing.com.
If Weir decided to miss the Brisbane Winter Carnival with Raw Impulse, he said that he would keep him in work leading up to the Spring Carnival and could head to Sydney for the Listed $100,000 W J McKell Cup (2400m) at Randwick on May 28.
“There’s a listed race in Sydney we might go to as he doesn’t need a spell,” Weir said.
“He’s a big, gross horse so even if he’s going to go to the spring, he’ll stay in work.”
The second acceptances for the Doomben Cup saw fourteen horses left in contention with Kiwi Group 1 winner Volkstok’N’Barrell number one in the ballot order ahead of the John O’Shea trained Hauraki and Lee and Anthony Freedman’s German import Out Ivanhowe.
O’Shea has also accepted with It’s Somewhat while Chris Waller still has three on the books with Junoob, Spiritjim and Lady Le Fay.
