Rangirangdoo is ready to produce his best in Ranvet

Sentimental favourite Rangirangdoo is ready to produce his best form in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill according to trainer Chris Waller.

Waller has three runners in the $400,000 WFA Group 1 and wouldn’t be surprised if Rangirangdoo was able to upstage favourite Shoot Out tomorrow. Waller also has 100-1 shot Hawk Island who is still looking for a longer journey.

Rangirangdoo showed a marked improvement at his third run back a long spell when he put in a strong run for fourth to Shoot Out in the Group 1 $350,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm on March 10.

Waller could see a lot of good in that run and the extra distance of the Ranvet will suit him with those hit outs under his belt.

“If Rangirangdoo makes the same improvement again after running fourth in the Chipping Norton he will be right in the race,” Waller said.

“He ran second to Theseo two years ago, admittedly he was right at the top of his game, and he is the right horse for these types of races.”

“As he showed last start he can put himself there when he is right, he has a good finish when he is fit and if he hits his straps he will run a good race.”

Stable mate Shoot Out is the obvious danger after returning to the Group 1 winner’s list with his victory in the Chipping Norton last start.

Waller is happy with Shoot Out’s progress since and expects him to maintain his good form.

“I haven’t changed anything with Shoot Out in the last couple of weeks since the Chipping Norton,” Waller said.

“I hope there is a little bit of improvement to come from his win last start, which I expect.”

“He has a good draw and has a jockey that knows him very well and things seem to be going perfectly with the horse.”

Waller said that at the start of this preparation he thought that Shoot Out would be at his best at 1600m but the way he is racing he is confident the 2000m is right up his alley.

Shoot Out worked on the course proper at Rosehill on Monday morning and ran a solid 1.11.9s for the final 1000m of his gallop, working home the last 600m in 40.20s and the final 200m in 13.4 on a heavy surface.

The Rosehill track was upgraded to a slow 6 for tomorrow after an early afternoon inspection by officials and a further upgrade could be expected if the weather continues to improve.
