Randwick Surface Now Worst Possible Rating

It didn’t take long for conditions to get worse at Randwick Racecourse today with the surface downgraded to a heavy 10.

At one stage stewards inspected the track and there were rumours circulating that the entire meeting could be abandoned.

The track started today as a Heavy 8 but after Race #3 it was downgraded with noticeably visible degradation occurring as the horses were running.

There have been multiple scratchings throughout the day as a result of the weather with punters sent into a spin re-evaluating wet weather form guides to find proven ‘mud runners’.

The track continues to deteriorate but the weather conditions have eased slightly with the rain ceasing for a brief period during the Australian Oaks.

It now looks unlikely that the meeting is under threat but the surface will be re-evaluated after every event.
