Australian Turf Club officials are hoping the forecast from the Bureau Of Meteorology stays true ahead of Black Caviar’s attempt for win number 25 in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The track is currently rated as heavy but warm and sunny weather is predicted for later in the week, with officials confident of a track in the Dead range if that comes to fruition.

A sell-out crowd is expected to pack into Randwick for Black Caviar’s first trip back to the prestigious track since she famously ran down Hay List in the same race two years ago.

But trainer Peter Moody has left no doubt about the wet weather scenario, saying there is no chance the brilliant mare will run in heavy ground.

“I don’t think there is reason to risk her on that type of going,” Moody told media at Caulfield on Monday.

Moody said his recommendation to connections would be that she could race on a Dead 5 or Slow 6 but doesn’t believe the risk on anything worse is necessary.

“The thing about this horse and the owners feel the same as me you don’t want to disappoint the public,” Moody said.

“Why run her on a Heavy or a Slow 7 at her 25th start just to see if she could handle it?”

Black Caviar hasn’t raced on anything worse than a Dead 4 but Moody believes she would probably handle wet ground.

If the world’s best racehorse doesn’t line up in the TJ Smith this weekend it opens up the possibility of a trip to Adelaide for the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) on April 27 or the BTC Cup (1200m) in Brisbane on May 11.

Moody has always maintained the mare is a race-by-race proposition.
