Railway Stakes Betting Support For Longport

Danny Bougoure-trained Longport is now on the second line of 2013 Railway Stakesbetting markets and is into odds of $6.00 after the barrier draw for the Group 1 event was conducted this morning.

Longport has received plenty of betting support to record her maiden Group 1 win in the Railway Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Longport drew towards the outside of the field in barrier 12 but fared a great deal better than leading fancies Fire Up Fifi (barrier 18), Luckygray (barrier 17) and Mr Moet (barrier 20), who will all need a great deal of luck to win from their wide draws.

The Casino Prince mare was available at Railway Stakes odds of $7 before the barrier draw was conducted and is now into $6.00 – despite being available at odds of $81 when betting markets were first opened earlier this month.

Longport joined the stable of Queensland trainer Danny Bougoure after her 2013 Autumn Racing Carnival campaign that was highlighted by a third place finish behind Dear Demi and Driefontein in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) and a narrow second place finish behind Norzita in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).

The four-year-old made her debut for Bougoure in the Group 2 Yellowglen Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, finishing ninth behind Fontelina, but stamped herself as a legitimate Railway Stakes contender with a tough front-running win in the Emirates Airline Handicap (1400m) at the same venue on Emirates Stakes Day.

Longport won the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) on protest from Norzita during the 2012 Spring Racing Carnival but has been unable to break through for a maiden win at the highest level of racing.

She made her Group 1 debut with a second place finish behind constant rival Norzita in the Flight Stakes (1600m) before having no luck when racing in Melbourne for the first time in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

When still owned by Patinack Farm, Longport remained in Sydney for this year’s autumn campaign and after her second place finish in the Vinery Stud Stakes was on the receiving end of a sixteen lengths defeat from Chris Waller-trained Royal Descent in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick.

Smokin’ Joey ($4.80) is now a clear favourite in 2013 Railway Stakes betting markets, following the barrier draw, with Longport ($6) on the second line of betting from Fire Up Fifi ($7) and Plucky Belle ($8.50).
