Railway Stakes Betting: Money for Tradesman

Perth galloper Tradesman has built up a solid following for his consistent efforts on the local circuit and he has attracted plenty of support in the betting in the lead up to the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Saturday.

The Robert and Todd Harvey trained Tradesman has firmed in from $11 to be one of the best backed runners at $8 with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Tradesman is the winner of seven of his thirteen race starts and recorded his first win at Ascot two runs back in a 1400m BenchMark 72+ Handicap before running third behind Perfection Reflection and Disposition in the Group 2 $250,000 Waroa-Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on November 5.

Tradesman will be lining up again against the Grant and Alana Williams trained stablemates in the Railway Stakes with Perfect Reflection heading the market order at $5 while Disposition is rated a $12 chance.

“He’s great, we’re really thrilled to be put into the field and we feel he’s deserving of his place there after his very good run at weight-for-age last start,” Todd Harvey told RSN.

“He was a very big, gangly looking horses as a yearling and he was always going to take some time. I’m glad I took the punt and bought him, because I loved him as a yearling and it seems to be paying off.

“He’s lightly-raced. He didn’t get to the track as a late three-year-old, but he’s got a very good winning strike rate and hasn’t ever really run a bad race.

“I think with the run over 1400m, the Lee Steere, it’s really brought him to his top and I think from the perfect barrier, he’s as good a chance as anything.”

“His win at Ascot first-up was excellent. He wasn’t fully wound up at that point, he ran very good time that day and he did beat Scales Of Justice on that day.

The Lindsey Smith trained Scales Of Justice gained a start in the Railway Stakes with a win in the Group 3 $150,000 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) at Ascot on November 12 and is also well in the betting at $8.50.

Local jockey Troy Turner has had a long association with Tradesman and was aboard last start in the Lee Steere Stakes and is certain to give him every chance from barrier six in the Railway Stakes.

Turner combined with Tradesman to record one of the gelding’s best wins in the 2015 Listed $100,000 Belmont Guineas over 1600m at Belmont.
