The Vanity 2018 is a three year old fillies contest run at the spectacular Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria.
Rated at Group 3 level The Mitty’s Vanity is contested across a trip of 1400m with $150,000 in prize money up for grabs. The race is held under set weight conditions and is scheduled on the same card as the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes in mid February.
Given its positioning on the calendar The Mitty’s Vanity usual attracts the best three year old fillies in work at the time. While some may be targeted to the Sydney autumn carnival most Victorian trainers elect to stay at home at tackle their own series.
The best performers in this race are likely to continue on to Moonee Valley for the Group 2 Moonee Valley Classic at the start of March. From there the Group 2 Kewney Stakes also becomes a possibility in the middle of March on Super Saturday at Flemington.
In 2009 Romneya won the Mitty’s Vanity / Moonee Valley Classic double while the Mitty’s Vanity / Kewney Stakes double was least achieved by Ballet Society in 2005.
Notable winners of the Mitty’s Vanity include Greeting in 1998, Dextrous in 2003, Country Lodge in 2004 and Southern Speed in 2011.
