The 2016 Red Roses Stakes is a Group 3 sprint held at the illustrious Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne during the Melbourne Cup Carnival in early November.
The Red Roses Stakes is held under set weights plus penalties conditions and is open to three year old fillies only. Held over 1200m, the Red Roses Stakes is worth $150,000 and tends to be a fairly popular target for talented types.
The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a series of four meets held over a week at Flemington hosted by the Melbourne Racing Club. The Red Roses Stakes runs on Day 3 of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Crown Oaks Day. It shares a race program with the Group 1 Crown Oaks, Group 3 Begonia Belle Stakes, Listed Batman Handicap and Listed Century Stakes.
There is a fairly diverse range of preparations that fillies come from to contest this race. The Group 2 Moonee Valley Fillies Classic held at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day can act as a decent guide for some of the classier types. The Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes held at Flemington over a month earlier can also provide some form indication.
The Listed Twilight Glow Stakes at Sandown presents a decent future target for horses after their Red Roses Stakes run. The Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes is also a potential target for those willing to travel to Ascot Racecourse in Perth.
